Educational Program: 6:40-7:42 PM - Film Screening, "Do I Need This?"

Do I Need This? is a documentary about our complicated relationship with the stuff in our lives, the stuff from which happiness is truly made, and legacy.

This quirky, relatable, and profound award-winning film delicately interweaves the filmmaker’s complicated relationship to her family possessions during the late stages of her parents’ lives, together with a journey into the homes and minds of her fellow Americans - from a buddhist monk to a woman who hoards, and a colorful cast of characters in between. The film explores late-in-life decisions related to the stuff we accumulate over a lifetime, and how it impacts our loved ones once we are gone.

Do I Need This? will be broadcast on PBS stations nationally in mid 2023. The film features Randy Frost, co-author of 'Buried in Treasures' and Bea Johnson, author of Zero Waste Home.

Running time: 62 minutes.  Watch the trailer here.

She compares her work to a person dressed as a polyester Statue of Liberty, holding a sign spinner which is strategically pointed to say, ‘LOOK HERE!’  Of her work, The New Yorker says, “nothing seems wasted, nothing’s excessive”  and the Evening Standard says “there’s a mesmerizing quality to (Kate’s) work”.  Do I Need This?
